William G. Bennett

d. May 6, 2021

William G. Bennett, 95 of Albion, IL passed away on May 6, 2021 at Linda E. White Hospice at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN

He was born, July 17, 1925 to Ellis and Amy (Guyot) Bennett in Albion, IL. On June 1, 1947 he married Velma Mundhank in Albion, IL.

William joined the Navy even before he graduated high school.  His dad signed so he could serve in WWII, so for the next 4 years, 1943 to 1947, he served his country overseas; in the battles, and then after the war. He returned home and met the love of his life and married her that same year. When the Korean Conflict began he served our country again for a couple of years.

His life was centered around serving God. He was a member of the Little Wabash United Methodist Church of rural West Salem, IL and then later Ellen Moore United Methodist Church in Fairfield, IL. Joshua 24:15 was his Motto, “… But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

He was proud of his public service years, beginning with 3 years as Alderman, then 4 years, 1960-1964, as Mayor of Albion and his 40 years with Wayne White Coop, retiring in 1987.

He loved to bow hunt for deer, duck hunt and turkey hunt.  He enjoyed going camping with his family and made it a tradition to camp every Labor Day.  All the men did this until this last year, 2020, because of the pandemic, it was cancelled.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Bennett; parents, Ellis and Amy Bennett; brothers, Allen Bennett and James Bennett; grandson, William G Bennett III.

He is survived by sons, William G. (Donna) Bennett Jr. of Evansville IN, Bruce K. (Glenda) Bennett of Marion, IL and Chris L. (Debbie) Bennett of Marion, IL; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 2 Great-Great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Little Wabash Cemetery Fund.
