William “Bill” Lendrum, 78, of Mt. Carmel, IL, passed from this life to the next on April 3, 2019 at Oakview Heights in Mt. Carmel.
He was born June 22, 1940 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Eleanor (Kepela) and Richard Lendrum. He married Roberta Nesler, and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2005.
Bill was a musician and was known as “Pineapple Bill.” In 1969, he recorded “Try A Little Kindness” with Crown Records. Living in Hawaii, he sang hapa haole-style island-themes novelty songs in addition to some country music. In the early 70’s, he was considered a local legend in New Mexico, where he recorded for the Goldust label. Bill even won a national talent contest sponsored by the True Value hardware company.
He is survived by six children: Clayton (Sindy) Lendrum of Washington, Dale (Heather) Lendrum of California, Steven Lendrum of California, William (Stephanie) Lendrum of Indiana, Michael (Trisha) Lendrum of New Mexico, and Amanda (Eric) Huff of Illinois; a step-daughter, Melinda (Johnny) Tieskotter of Virginia; two sisters: Elanor Stimpson of North Carolina and Vicki Jusko of California; and nine grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; one daughter, Sheila Lendrum; and one brother, Richard Lendrum.
