Vernon J. Zotz, 83, of Lebanon, IL., passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Cedar Ridge Health and Rehab Center in Lebanon, IL.
He was born at the family home in Lebanon Township on March 13, 1939, to Charles and Esther (nee Schumacher) Zotz. For a short time, he was married to Dora Kay Blakey, and they had three children together.
Vernon enlisted and served in the Marine Corps. and was stationed in California. Back at home, he earned his living as a mechanic, carpenter, and handyman. Vernon worked at L & E Motors in Lebanon and other local businesses, then later was self-employed.
Besides storytelling, "You know what I'm sayin'", and people watching, Vernon liked building models, especially farm and railroad scenes, and doing puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Esther Zotz; brothers, Leo Zotz, Carl Zotz, and Dennis Zotz.
Vernon is survived by his children, Melinda “Mindy” (Rusty) Schiefer, Trenton, IL, Sheri (Rob) Elliott, Davenport area, IA, Vernon (Kelly) Zotz II, Livonia, MI; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Dean (Carol) Zotz; sisters-in-law, Janice Zotz, Sandy Zotz.
Memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice or to the family.
