Theodore “T.O.” J. O’Gara, 89, of Highland, IL, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his daughter’s home in Troy, IL, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 18. 1935, in Indianapolis, IN, to Hugh and Catherine “Marie” (nee Riley) O’Gara. On July 11, 1976, he married the love of his life, Maleane E. McGee, in Las Vegas, NV.

Theodore was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force. He began serving his country during the Vietnam War in 1955, then retired as a Master Seargeant in 1975. His primary specialty in the Airforce was tactical aircraft maintenance and some of his accolades include: Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award w/ 4 OLC, Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/ 3 OLC, Airforce Commendation Medal w/ 2 OLC.

In his retirement, Theodore found happiness in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the St. Louis Cardinals, never missing a chance to cheer on his teams. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time at the Highland Diner, where he shared countless conversations, meals, and laughs with his dear friends and the staff who came to know him well.

Above all, Theodore’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather whose love and wisdom touched generations. His presence, steady and warm, will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Maleane O’Gara; parents Hugh and Marie O’Gara; sons, Willie Tyson, Michael Tyson; brother, Joseph O’Gara; beloved dog, Franco.

Theodore is survived by his children, Julie (Robert) Williams, Cynthia (Carlos) Gonzales, Lawrence (Joanne) Tyson, Natalie (Edward) Marsh; niece, Melanie (Ken) Heckman; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and many loving friends.

Memorials may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation.

Visitation: Monday, July 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Kassly-Meridith Funeral Home, Collinsville, IL.
