Terry L. Clayton

Terry Lester Clayton, affectionately known as “High Roller,” passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Highland, Illinois, at the age of 81.

Born in Highland, Terry lived a life full of service, laughter, and love. He proudly served his country overseas in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army and later spent his career working in maintenance. Terry was a longtime member of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, the National MPS Society, and the United Church of Christ.

Terry had a passion for collecting cars and could often be found enjoying a game of bocce, cards, or dice — usually with a grin and a practical joke up his sleeve. He was happiest surrounded by family, especially during scenic drives in the rain or bike rides with his grandchildren in his younger years.

He is survived by his loving companion, Cindy Miller; his children Stephen (Denise) Clayton and Kristine (Brian) Klenke; his grandchildren Jacob (Halie) Clayton, Ben Clayton, and Chelsey (Matt) Robertson; great-grandchild Rowan Clayton; and cherished family members Tiffany (Eric) Abert and their children Olin, Maddox, and Dakota Abert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Clayton and Alberta Rommerskirchen, and his beloved grandchildren Kraig Klenke and Jessica Clayton.

An informal dinner will be held immediately after services at the Highland American Legion at 6:30 p.m., where friends and family are invited to share memories and celebrate Terry’s life.

Terry will be remembered for his playful spirit, his devotion to family, and the joy he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him.
