Terrance "Terry" Lee Miles, 75, of Highland, Illinois, born March 3, 1951, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 29, 2026, while surrounded closely by his family.
Terry had worked as an accountant/controller during a career spanning over 40 years. His work ethic reflected his attitude of "never be late and work until the work is done." Terry was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, Illinois; a past president of the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Council in Omaha, Nebraska, and regularly attended the White House Jesuit Retreat outside of St. Louis, Missouri. He served in The United States National Guard, and as Drum Major and baritone player in the award-winning Millstadt Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps. He later marched and played baritone with the Ainad Shriners. Terry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Terry was an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and could be found glued to the television during every football game. He also enjoyed bringing his family to visit the campus and attend games. He was very passionate about music. Be it listening, performing, or composing, it brought him great joy and contentment. Additionally, Terry enjoyed playing chess, grilling, camping, reading, and watching classic movies and shows. He and Claire were devoted parents and took great pride in raising their children in faith and strong values. Though he held many titles, his favorite role was being a Grandpa to Lindsay, Louie, Wyatt, and Ida. They were truly the apple of his eye.
Terry always loved a good story, and we know he was involved in so many. His family has found comfort over the recent days in hearing stories recounted about him. We encourage everyone who has a special memory with Terry to share with us (either by comment in the obituary or email to Terrytales51@gmail.com).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ida (nee Grau) Miles; and a brother, Larry Miles, in infancy.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Claire (nee Telthorst) Miles; his five children, Scott (Lori) Miles, Douglas (Vickie) Miles, Laura (Chris) Ades, Christopher (Leah) Miles, and Joseph (Morgan) Miles; four grandchildren; and siblings, Ricky Miles, Warren (Sonya) Miles, Darwin (Pam) Miles, and Tina Miles.
Memorials may be made to HIS KIDS Inc. in Highland, Illinois (www.hiskidsinc.org), which supports families affected by childhood cancer.
