Shirley L. Mersinger

Shirley L. Mersinger, 8l, of St. Jacob, IL, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Breese, IL.

Shirley was born December 16, 1931, to Louis and Ineze (nee Layton) Evans, in St. Louis, MO.  On October 25, 1952, she married Clarence Mersinger at St. Henry’s Church, Belleville, IL.

She was very active in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon, IL.  She belonged to the St. Joseph Ladies Organization and the Eta Phi Zeta Sorority.  Shirley always stayed in touch with her high school friends.  She taught Sunday school for many years and served as a room mother.  She was a licensed hairdresser, and had worked in the Boevine Beauty Shop in her early years.

She is survived by her 6 children, Kenneth (Dottie) Mersinger, Alvin, TX, Kathy (John) Finley, St. Jacob, IL, Sheryl (Mark) Steyer, Collinsville, IL, Karen (Bob) Daiber, Marine, IL, Steven (Toni) Mersinger, St. Jacob, IL, and Michelle (Mark) Ray, Gold River, CA; 14 grandchildren, Robert Mersinger, Rebecca Mersinger,  James (Nikki) Finley, Jason Finley, Ashlie Steyer, Amber Steyer, Ryan Daiber, David Daiber, Katelyn Mersinger, Emily Mersinger, Elliana Ray, Cody (Jessica) Rogers, Samantha Rogers, Niki Rogers;  1 brother, Louis “Lou” Evans, Belleville, IL; 3 sisters-in-law, Betty Evans, Naples, FL, Margie Foster, FL, and Felicitas Korte, Highland, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Ineze Evans; her husband, Clarence “Clink” Mersinger (2009); 2 brothers, Ken Evans, Mel Evans; 1 sister, Norma Knapp; 1 brother-in-law, Norman Knapp.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lebanon, IL.

Visitation:  Tuesday, November 26, 2013, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and Wednesday, November 27, 2013, from 9:00 – 10:00 am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lebanon, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial:  Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lebanon, IL.
