Robert E. Knebel

Robert Eugene Knebel, 74, of Highland, IL, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital surrounded by family.

He was born on May 28, 1951, to Wilbert and Elizabeth (nee Collman) Knebel. On April 22, 1972, he married Connie Tebbe at St. Rose Catholic Church, St. Rose, IL.

Robert retired from the Air Force Reserves. He was a car mechanic by trade, tow truck owner and operator, Volunteer Firefighter, served on Highland City Council, Zoning Board, as well as Mayor Pro tem. But the job he loved most was playing Santa. Robert was a man of service; he was always there if you needed him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Elizabeth Knebel; son, Robert Knebel Jr; sister, Patricia Hediger.

Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Connie Knebel; daughters, Tracey (Ken) Larson of Central Point, OR and Carri (Ryan) Tolbert of Granite City, IL; grandchildren, Patrick Knebel, Highland, Il, Robert John Knebel, Highland, IL, Madison Larson, Ashland, OR, Kennedy (Ben Patin), Herriman, UT, Abriele Larson, Central Point, OR; sisters, Janet (Gray) Evans, Pierron, IL, Mary Knebel, Trenton, IL; brother, Roger Knebel, Millersburg, IL.

The family would like to thank Highland EMT’s for all their many times helping, HSHS ER, hospital and medical staff, HSHS Hospice for their professional help and support. Special thanks to Donnie, Kim and Tom for all you did.
