Rita K. Johnson, 84, of Whiteland, IN, formerly of Highland, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at home.
She was born on January 13, 1942, in Pomona, MO, to Gay and Florene (nee Brotherton) Mason. On August 11, 1989, she married Thomas L. Johnson, Jr.
Rita was a member of the Highland Southern Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing with her puppy, and taking care of the many plants and flowers around her house. A kind, strong willed, and faithful woman, Rita will be forever missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gay and Florene Mason; husband, Thomas L. Johnson, Jr.; and brother, Ron Mason.
Rita is survived by her son, Kerry (Cathy) Dougherty; grandchildren, Micheal Dougherty, Scarlett Dougherty, and Alyssa Dougherty; great granddaughter, Willow Dougherty; sister-in-law, Darlene Cannon; and nephew, Nick Mason.
Memorial donations may be made to the Highland Southern Baptist Church.
