Melba Hemann, 81, of Highland, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on July 31, 1944, in Washington County Hospital, Nashville, IL, to Roland and Anna Marie (nee Bridges) Schuette. On October 10, 1964, she married Fred Hemann at St. Barbara Church, Okawville, IL.
Melba was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL, former member of Legion of Mary, and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul Church. She loved playing Quilt Bingo and had won 52 quilts over the years. She donated several to St. Paul Kirchenfest Quilt Auction, Pocahontas School District, and Hoyleton Community. She was as close to a quilt connoisseur as she could be. Melba loved to do counted cross stitch and was an avid walker year-round through snow and ice. She loved to bake cookies for her granddaughters. Melba was also known as the Toy Lady at Korte Rec Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Anna Marie Schuette.
Melba is survived by her husband of 61 years, Fred Hemann; sons, Jason (Stephanie) Hemann, St. Charles, MO, Troy (Kay) Hemann, Pocahontas, IL; grandchildren, Sarah (fiancé, Blake Weiss), Pocahontas, IL, Kelsie Hemann; sister, Gloria Hoepker Fetzer, Henderson, TX; nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Educational Foundation, Disabled American Veterans or Fisher House.
Visitation: Monday, July 6, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, July 7, 2026, 10:30 am, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.
