Mary Lou Wood

Mary Lou Wood, (nee Chapple), 78, of Lebanon, IL, passed to the next life September 7, 2018, in Trenton, IL.

Mary Lou was born on June 13, 1940 in Lebanon, IL. On July 9, 1960, she married William H. Wood.

Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She retired in 2013 from part time employment for Catherine’s Dress Shop in Lebanon and Hallmark in O’Fallon where she loved to assist customers find the perfect gift. Before that, she, along with her loving husband, William “Bill,” owned and operated the Lebanon Dairy Queen for 20 years.

Mary Lou was a member of the St. Paul UCC in Lebanon where she had been active with The Women’s Fellowship, Chairperson of the Wurstmart Committee, and many other activities. Another of her devotions was to Camp Dubois Center, where she served on the camp auxiliary board for many years. She was a member of the ETA PHI ZETA Sorority and The Lebanon Women’s Club. Mary Lou was passionate about her children, grandchildren, and friends, and lived to take care of all. Her personality and smile made everyone feel welcome. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, and great friend to many.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, William Wood; parents Robert and Helen (nee Weber) Chapple; brother, Gerald (sister-in-law Sue); sister, Barbara; and grandson Blake Wood.

Surviving are her two sons, Brent (Donna) Wood of Lebanon, IL, Douglas (Mikol) Wood of rural Trenton, IL; one grandchild, Jenna (Paul) Ritzheimer; and two step-grandchildren Sydney Housley and Myranda Reese.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul UCC Lebanon Building Addition Fund, Lebanon Education Foundation, or Heartland Hospice.
