Mary Frances Petry

Mary Frances Petry (Nee Grimmer), 87, of Highland, IL, died Sunday, September 06, 2015, at home surrounded by her family.

Mary was born November 25, 1927, to Hugo and Norma (Nee Zimmerman) Grimmer, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL.  On July 31, 1948, she married Burnell Petry at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL, a former member of St. Ann’s Altar Society, a former member of Daughters of Isabella, a life member of Ladies Auxiliary V F W Post 5694 and Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 439.

Mrs. Petry loved to sew back in the day.  She would sew clothing for her and her daughter, and later, her love of sewing evolved into quilting, and she made quilts for her granddaughters.  She loved to dance, play BINGO, and shoot a 3 position target rifle.  She had a collection of African violets and wine glasses.  Mary was a Den Mother for her sons Cub Scout Pack 40.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Norma Grimmer; 1 sister, Angela Campbell.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Burnell Petry, AKA: Sugar Creek Wanderer, Highland; children, Thomas Leo Petry, Vandalia, IL, Donald John Petry, Beckemeyer, IL, Mark Alan Petry, Highland, IL, Susan (Tom) Miller, Fountaintown, IN; grandchildren, Jeffrey Miller, Alecia (Tevis) Hughes, Amy Lynn (Billy) Thorpe, Chrissy Lea (Pat) Henning; great-grandchildren, Timber Steven Thorpe, Austin William Henning, Sierra Rose Henning; sister, Patricia Potthast, CA; nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Education Foundation or Donor’s Choice.

Visitation: Sunday, September 13, 2015, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL, and Monday, September 14, 2015, from 9:00 to 10:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, September 14, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Paul Church.

Interment: St. Joseph Cemetery, Highland.
