Martha Sue “Marty” Lawler, 89, of Lebanon, IL passed away at her home with her family by her side on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
She was born on September 15, 1936, to Edward Maloney and Sallie Maloney (nee Mecum). Marty lived her early life in Ridgway, IL with her 4 brothers and 5 sisters. After high school she worked in Ridgway and then married the love of her life, Richard "Joe" Lawler, who she spent 67 years with almost inseparably. Marty and Joe lived in Lebanon, IL, where they had 2 daughters, Colene and Sherri.
Marty was a homemaker most of her life. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and canning all of her produce, spending time with her beloved husband, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church. For many years Marty enjoyed making ceramics and attending craft fairs. For 20 years Marty joined her 2 sisters and her niece on annual trips to Tunica, MS, where she would play her favorite penny slots. She was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal’s fan. She enjoyed watching the games on TV and attending games in person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Sallie Maloney; siblings, Paul Maloney, Virginia Heller, Patsy Maloney, Bill Maloney, Rita Soma, Tim Maloney, Carol Bailey and Larry Maloney.
Marty is survived by her daughters, Colene (Tom) Schwaegel and Sherri (Dave) Midgley; grandchildren, Trisha Schwaegel, Tina (Dave) Kowalewski, Terri (Eric) Lehan, Rebecca Midgley, and Kris (Rachel) Midgley; great grandchildren, Cody, Nolaan, Tristan, Daniel, Riley, Jesephine, Isabella, Max, and Felix; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon or St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Ridgway, IL.
Visitation: Monday, July 27, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 am, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Lebanon, IL, and Monday, August 3, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 am, at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Ridgway, IL
