Marilyn J. Gurlen

Marilyn J. Gurlen, 74, of Collinsville, IL, died Friday, December 18, 2020, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.

Marilyn was born Nov. 10, 1946, to Lee and Bessie (Nee Hanks) Hughes in Malden, MO.  On May 30, 1964 she married Donald J. Gurlen in Gideon, MO.

Marilyn was a secretary/bookkeeper and for the last 8 plus years she has worked for Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home, Collinsville, Il, where she has helped numerous families going through the grief process.

She was a very loving mother and grandmother.  She adored being a grandmother. She loved to work in the yard and enjoyed feeding the critters including, the raccoon, groundhog and birds.  Marilyn loved playing the piano and putting together jigsaw puzzles, cooking and baking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Bessie Hughes; husband, Donald J. Gurlen; siblings, Hallet Hughes, Helen Batson, Ruby Yount, Georgie Hughes, Bobby Hughes and Johnny Hughes.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Karen (Jody) Wasser, Collinsville, IL; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Denise) Gurlen, Katie (Fiancée Bradley Bagwell) Wasser; great-grandchildren, Paisley Wasser, Lincoln Gurlen, Parker Bagwell; brother, Richard Hughes, Troy, IL; many nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19 we will practice social distancing and wearing a mask is mandatory.

Memorial Visitation: Sunday, December 20, 2020, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home, Collinsville, IL.
