Marie C. Bimes, 87, of Highland, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL.
She was born on Sunday, March 21, 1937, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Adolph A. and Edith M. (nee Wirtz) Determann. Marie married David Bimes on Saturday, June 22, 1957, at Grantfork United Church of Christ. After their marriage, Marie and David moved to Camp LeJune where David was stationed in the United States Marine Corps, and their daughter, Vicky, was born. They were married 69 years.
Marie graduated from Highland High School in 1955. She worked at Basler Electric for 10 years, then worked at Scott Air Force Base, IL, and finally transferred to ATCOM in St. Louis, MO, until her retirement on Friday, April 9, 1993.
She was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland for over 60+ years. Marie taught Sunday School, served on the Board of Christian Education, and the Memorial Board in the 1960’s and 70’s. She was a member of the Women’s Guild, served as an usher, assembled the Evangeline’s, was a member of the Caregivers team, which visited members in the nursing homes, and served at funeral luncheons and church events for many years. Marie was the Highland High School Band Parent President in the 1970’s when the band went to England. She also volunteered at HACSM and at Faith Countryside Apartments, serving lunch for many years.
Marie was a loving caregiver for her husband, David, for over 60+ years after a hunting accident left him completely blind. She loved to travel, especially to Europe (England, France & Italy), and most of the United States. Marie also cruised to Mexico, Alaska, Honduras, and the Caribbean. She will be remembered as being a very caring person and a loving wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph A. and Edith Determann; brothers, Edward Determann and Adolph C. Determann; sister-in-law, Donna Determann; and brother-in-law, Billy Causey.
Marie is survived by her husband of 69 years, David Bimes, Highland, IL; daughter, Vicky (Hal) Winter, Highland, IL; brother, Christopher (Janice) Determann, Sorento, IL; sister, Velma Causey, Highland, IL; step grandchildren, Wendy (John) Blanchard, Highland, IL, and Shawn Winter, Highland, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ (EvUCC).
Visitation: Friday, August 28, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, at the EvUCC in Highland, IL
Funeral Service: Friday, August 28, 2026, 11:00 am, at the EvUCC in Highland, IL

Interment: Highland City Cemetery, Highland, IL
A luncheon will be held at the EvUCC social hall following the graveside service.
