Linda Susan Schleper, age 76, of Pocahontas, Illinois, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on July 4, 1949, in Highland, Illinois, to Edward and Irene O. (Hediger) Wegman.

Linda graduated from Greenville High School in 1967 and later graduated from Central Beauty School in 1969. On August 4, 1972, she married Jerome Alphonse Schleper at St. Paul Church in Highland, Illinois. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, compassion, and dedication.

Linda began her working career as a waitress at Funderburk’s in Pocahontas, known at that time as Powhatten. She then worked as a beautician at Neila’s Beauty Bar in Highland from 1969 until 1975. Later, she received CNA training at Faith Countryside Nursing Home, where she worked as both a CNA and beautician from 1995 to 2000. Linda also worked for several home healthcare agencies, providing loving care to many individuals in their homes. Her caring spirit extended most deeply to her husband Jerome, whom she faithfully cared for after his diagnosis of MS 1981. Later Linda was diagnosed with MS as well. She focused on natural treatments for treating their condition she became a library of knowledge for family and friends to manage medical conditions.

Linda was a devoted member of St. Nicholas Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Irene O. (Hediger) Wegman; her brothers, Edward (Wegman) Britt, Kenneth Wegman, James Wegman, and Daniel Wegman; her sisters, Nancy Wegman, Patsy (Wegman) Koonce, and Kathy (Wegman) Michaelis; her brother-in-law, Russell Singler; and her sisters-in-law, Sandy Schleper and Mary Ann Schleper.

Linda is survived by her children, Joseph (Torrie) Schleper Anchorage, Alaska, Lori (Terry) Self Pocahontas, IL, and Jennifer Literski (Kyle Bade) OFallon, IL; her beloved grandchildren, Gavin Self St. Louis, MO, Madison Self Pocahontas, IL, Hayden Schleper Maryland, Carly Literski Troy, IL, Carson Literski Troy, IL, Holden Schleper Maryland, and Hudson Schleper Maryland, Step Grandchildren Zakia, Zaria and Thomas; her brother, Bruce (Becky) Wegman of Trenton; her brother in laws Gervase Schleper Breese, IL, James Schleper Highland, IL and Richard Koonce Greenville, IL. her sister in laws Dee Singler Carlyle, IL, Loretta Schleper, PHJC Gary, IN, Mary Ellen (Mike) Rapien Highland, IL, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will deeply miss her.

Linda’s life was defined by compassion, hard work, faith, and love for her family. Her gentle heart and caring hands touched countless lives, and her memory will be cherished always.

Our family would like to thank all of the caregivers who helped us through the years. Your commitment, support and friendship to our mother will always be cherished and remembered.
