Kathryn Ilene Thomason Wood

Kathryn Ilene Thomason Wood, 90, of Bone Gap, IL passed away on November 2, 2025 at Haven on the River in Grayville, IL.

Kathryn was born December 16, 1934 in Cisne, IL to Ralph and Dorothy (Feller) McCracken.

Kathryn married LaVerne “Ernie” Thomason and they briefly lived in Peoria, IL until moving back to Bone Gap, IL where she raised her three children. Kathryn devoted herself as a loving mother after losing Ernie early in her marriage. She was dedicated to raising her children in the church. She was active in the Albion Free Methodist Church serving in multiple areas such as treasurer, song leader, and conference lay delegate. She loved the Lord and her desire was for all her children to have that personal relationship with the Lord Jesus.

Kathryn worked in the Albion Grade School as a cook for a few years before going back to school to receive her LPN degree and worked for many local nursing homes until her retirement.

She loved watching her children grow and enjoyed going to their ballgames and other school, community, and family activities.

Kathryn had a passion for being outside working in her yard, in the garden and loved anything that bloomed. She also loved watching and feeding the birds and could hardly wait to see her first hummingbird in the spring. She loved baking and cooking and most of all, she loved her family. Kathryn was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Kathryn is survived by her two sons Steve (Bonita) Thomason and Bill (Michelle) Thomason, and her daughter Debbie (Ross) Ongaro; six grandchildren Hannah Ramsland, Benjamin Thomason, Justin Ongaro, Katie Lundgren, Montana Thomason and Grace Thomason; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Marjorie Hilliard and Loretta Gill, and a brother, Richard McCracken; along with fourteen nieces and nephews. .

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband LaVerne “Ernie” Thomason; her second husband Vearl Wood; her sisters Doris Fields and Juanita Pittman; and a grandson Dakota Thomason.

Services for Kathryn Ilene Thomason Wood will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Ingram Meridith Funeral Home in Albion, IL with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and her funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Bone Gap Cemetery in Bone Gap, IL.
