Julie Schmidt

Julie L. Schmidt, 86, of Lebanon, IL, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Chestnut Rehab & Nursing, St. Louis, MO.

She was born December 19, 1934, to Lester and Elizabeth (nee Kuczka) Votrain in Breese, IL.  She married Jerome “Satch” Schmidt on May 8,1954 at St. Anthony Church, in Beckemeyer, IL.

Julie grew up in Beckemeyer and moved with her family to Lebanon as a teenager.  She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, IL, and taught Sunday School there for many years.  Julie worked as a bus driver for Vandalia Bus Lines until 1984, and then at Bohannon Nursing Home in Medical Records for 18-20 years, until her retirement.

As a bus driver, Julie was involved with all the school extra-curricular activities and going to team events.  She enjoyed shopping and buying shoes with her sister Dorothy.  Julie loved spending time in the pool, enjoyed BBQ’s and spending time with her family meant the world to her.  Every year she traveled with Satch’s WWII group to various reunions.  After Satch’s passing, Julie moved to Camdenton, MO and lived there for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Elizabeth Votrain; husband, Jerome "Satch" Schmidt; son, John Schmidt; siblings, Bradley Votrain and Joanne Streif; sisters-in-law, June Ellen Schmidt, Lyla Jean Wilhelm.

Julie is survived by her children, Karen Schmidt, Evans, CO, Janine (John) Kennedy, New Athens, IL, Kirk (Linda) Schmidt, Lebanon, IL; significant other, Ron Larson; grandchildren, Conner Schmidt, Christian Schmidt, Christopher Johnson, Catie Johnson; son-in-law, Al Johnson; siblings, Dorothy (Larry) Baum, Kenneth Votrain; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Crossroads Hospice, St. Louis, MO.
