Joseph R. Schmitt

Joseph "Mr. Joe" Schmitt, 62, of Summerfield, IL, died Saturday, July 15, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL.

Joe was born on January 29, 1955, to Robert and Merhlene (nee Myers) Schmitt at St. Mary's Hospital, E. St. Louis, IL.  On July 3, 2008, he married Pepper Graham in Belleville, IL.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lebanon, IL, and St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, IL.  He loved to bowl and play golf.  He coached the ladies' golf team and was the bowling coach at the high school.  He was very creative and owner of Schmitt Sign Painting, then MJ Griffith's.  Joe was involved with stock car racing since the 1970's.  He loved life and did anything for anybody.  Joe was a great husband and dad and proud of his children.  He didn't know a stranger and was loved by everyone.

He is survived by his Wife, Pepper Schmitt, Summerfield, IL; Children, Nathan Schmitt, Trenton, IL, Tyson Schmitt, Lebanon, IL, Haley (partner Ash Leslie) Schmitt, St. Louis, MO, Joey (significant other Lydia Donnigan) Schmitt, Summerfield, IL, Lorriena Massey, Edwardsville, IL, Jason (fiancé Shonda) Hustedde, Troy, IL, Roy (Kari) Hustedde, Salem, IL; Grandchildren, Kaleb, Ethan, Austin, Alexa; Dad, Robert Schmitt, Summerfield, IL; Brother, Robert E. (Cheri) Schmitt, Lebanon, IL; Brother-in-Law, Keith Suydam; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Mother, Merhlene Schmitt; Son, Jason Joseph Schmitt; Sister, Lisa Suydam.

Visitation:  Thursday, July 20, 2017, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday, July 21, 2017, from 8:00 to 9:30 am, at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial:  Friday, July 21, 2017, 10:00 am, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lebanon, IL.

Interment:  St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lebanon, IL.
