John "Jack" Ashford, 79, of Highland, IL died October 14, 2007 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis,MO. He was born in Madison, IL on January 19, 1928 to Carl and Ida (Meginson) Ashford. He married Jeanette D. Smith on July 22, 1950 in Granite City, IL.
He is preceded in death by a son in 2007 - Jack L. Ashford; and four brothers and one sister.
Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years - Jeanette Ashford, Highland, IL; one son James "Jim" (Laurie) Ashford, Highland, IL; one daughter - Jill (Ernie) Hogan - Talking Rock, GA; one Daughter-in-Law - Connie Ashford, Greenville, IL; seven grandchildren - Stephen, Daniel, Jason, Jamie, Tara and Michael Ashford & Melissa Seabolt; two great grandchildren - Titus Ashford; Levi Ashford; several nieces and nephews.
He worked as a carpenter and farmer and a steel worker at Granite City Steel 21 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Highland, IL.
Visitation: 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, Oct. 16th and 8:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, Oct. 17th at the Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.
Funeral: Wednesday, Oct. 17th at the Meridith Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Rev Leonard Pye, Pastor of Faith Baptist Church, officiating. Burial in Wisetown Cemetery, Beaver Creek, IL
Memorials may be offered to Faith Baptist Church Building Fund or Diabetes Association.
