Joanne Garrison

Joanne Garrison, 78, of West Salem, IL passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at Helia Healthcare in Olney, IL.

Joanne was born on July 28, 1947 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Alvis and Gladys (Runge) Hartleb. She married Gary Garrison in 1969, and they enjoyed 56 years of married life.

Joanne was a school teacher for 39 years, with the majority of her career at West Salem Grade School. She taught most of the kids who lived in West Salem (along with those kids’ parents and, sometimes even grandparents.) She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teacher’s Association and was Catholic. She loved Stampin’ Up cards for decades. She was an avid reader, loved watching British mystery television, bird watching, jigsaw puzzles and tea parties. She had an excellent memory for clothing that she wore over the years. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also loved her grand-puppies, Otto and Winnie.

Surviving is her husband, Gary Garrison; two daughters, Tracy Garrison and Jill (Mike) Untch; and a grand-daughter, Evangeline.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Hoffman.

Private Memorial services for Joanne Garrison will be held at a later date.
