James E. Carkuff, 54, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.

He was born on November 5, 1969, in Granite City, IL, to James Edwin and Patricia Ann Woolf (nee Bickel). On December 17, 2019, he married the love of his life, Melissa (Gipson) Carkuff.

He was a man of boundless love, unwavering strength, and quiet kindness. His life revolved around his adored wife and two daughters, whom he cherished with all his heart.

James had a passion for travel, and together with his family, they created beautiful memories on trips to Springfield Ilinois, Memphis, Tennessee, South Branch, Michigan, Missouri, Texas. His joy was found in every adventure, big or small, as long as he was with the people he loved most. He enjoyed all the time he could be with his daughters, teaching them important life lessons like how to drive, teaching them how to cook his famous chicken strips, going to the science center and the zoo, spending time shopping, school dances, field trips, movies, singing, dancing, bbqing, always putting their happiness first.

As the cornerstone of his family, James was their guiding light, providing support and love through every challenge and joy. His strength, wisdom, and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him and so many that didn't.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Carkuff and Patricia Woolf. An angel "Baby Carkuff". Brother-in-law Dennis Gipson Jr and Michael Green.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 18 yrs together, 4 years married, Melissa Gipson-Carkuff; children, Lilly Carkuff, McKenzie Carkuff, James “JC” Carkuff, Jeremy Carkuff, Devin Carkuff; his dad David Woolf of South Branch, Michigan. Siblings, Patricia, Tony, Dawn, Tammy, Wade of Texas; 4 grandchildren. numerous nieces, nephews. Mother-in-law Julia Ambrozat. Sister-in-law Tammy Gipson Green (DeeDee); brother-in-law Joseph Gipson (Amy). Dear and wonderful friend Becky Weiler who was his "adopted " sister. And numerous friends.

His wish was to be an organ/tissue donor. And to be cremated.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to his wife and daughters.
