James John "Jim" Bruno, 92, of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Pocahontas, IL passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5th, 2026, at Douglas T. Jacobsen Veterans Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, FL.
He was born on February 1, 1934, in Pocahontas, IL to Peter and Teresa (nee Vairo) Bruno. On June 9, 1956, he married the love of his life, Myrna Woosley and they were together nearly 67 years before her passing in 2023.
Jim graduated Pocahontas High School in 1952 and joined the Army serving 2 years stationed at Fort Meade in Baltimore, MD. He attended Devry University Technical Institute for TV repair and electronics technician. He worked several jobs in Illinois including many years at Dow Jones in Highland. After moving to Cape Coral, FL he worked for Gannett until retirement.
Jim enjoyed watching Nascar races, fishing, camping, traveling, playing baseball and basketball, and loved dancing the jitterbug with his wife. He cherished teaching his children how to play sports. He took countless sports videos of his children transferring them to DVD entitled "The Bruno Sports Machine". He also enjoyed fixing cars and any handy work needing done. At the end of the day, you might catch him asleep in front of the TV with a toothpick in his mouth.
Along with his wife, Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tony Bruno. He is survived by his children, Larry (Dawn) Bruno, William (Jan) Bruno, Julie (Michael) Lohman and Trina (Michael) Walsh; grandchildren, Jared (Mollie) Bruno, Sarah Bruno, David (Nikki) Bruno, Kathryn (Jordan) Strickland, Alicia (Spencer) Williams, Kristen (Andy) Rincker, Seth Lohman, Brooke Walsh and Lindsey Walsh; great-grandchildren, Levi Bruno, Charlotte (Charley) Williams, Arin Williams, Scott Williams, Isaiah Rincker, Evie Rincker, Aurora (Rory) Bruno, Brailynn Strickland, Brooklynn Strickland, and Stryker Strickland.
Memorial donations may be made to any hospital or hospice organization.
Memorial Visitation: Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Meridith Funeral Home in Pocahontas, IL
Reading of the Eulogy will be Saturday May 2, 2026, at 2:00 pm
Interment will be in Robinson Cemetery
