Helen Vaughn

Helen Vaughn (nee Dickerson), 83, of Pocahontas, IL, died Monday, March 7, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL.

Helen was born September 21, 1932, to Harvey and Sylvia (nee Heilig) Dickerson in Alexander County, IL.

She was a member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and visited with the people.  Helen enjoyed camping, gardening, playing cards, polka dancing, embroidering, and loved hummingbirds.  But most of all she, treasured spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Richard) Mueller, Pocahontas, IL; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Brian) Wesselmann; great-grandchildren, Emily, Zach, and Maddie; sisters, Thelma Payne and Dorothy Franks; multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Dickerson and Sylvia Jernigan; husband, Fred Vaughn (Feb 26, 2016); brothers, Jake Dickerson, Gerald Jernigan, Sherman Jernigan, and Clinton Dickerson, in infancy; sister, Mary Potts.

Memorials may be made to Pocahontas-Old Ripley Ambulance Service or St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

Visitation: Saturday, March 12, 2016, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, at Meridith Funeral Home, Pocahontas, IL.

Funeral Service: Saturday, March 12, 2016, 11:00 am, at Meridith Funeral Home.

Clergy: Rev. Fr. Scott Snider, Pastor, St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

Interment: Robinson Cemetery.
