Gordon Poss

Gordon Poss, 71, of Highland, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

He was born on February 2, 1955, in Highland, IL, to Thomas and Rosalie (nee Ratchford) Poss. He married his beloved wife, Helen (nee Wempe) Poss on July 2, 1982, they shared 43 years of marriage.

Gordon loved people and was naturally friendly. He was known for his quick wit; he could deliver memorable one-liners and was a natural storyteller. He owned and operated the Family Inn Restaurant in Highland, IL. He was a wonderful cook and was always personable with his employees and customers. He also managed the Sears Hardware store, where he was known for being helpful and easy to talk to.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Rosalie Poss; brother, Thomas Jr. (Tommy) Poss.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Helen Poss; children, Zach Poss, Danielle Fitzpatrick, Ian Poss, Dori Kirksey and Jessica Caro; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by family, friends, and all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
