Gary Dean Wilson, 77, of Highland, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O'Fallon, Illinois.

Gary was born on April 23, 1949, in Greeley, Colorado. In June 1957, Robert and Doris Wilson began their family by adopting Gary and his two brothers.

On October 28, 1978, Gary married the love of his life, Anna Lindgens, at Highland Community Church. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. Anna survives and cherishes the many memories they shared throughout their nearly 48 years of marriage.

A proud veteran, Gary proudly served his country in the United States Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1973 and later in the Illinois Air National Guard from 1973 to 1975. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 30 years of service as an employee of the State of Illinois. He was a member of the American Legion.

Gary was a lifelong sports enthusiast and devoted Chicago Cubs fan. He spent many years playing baseball and softball, beginning at a young age and continuing well into adulthood. He also enjoyed watching football, classic westerns, war movies and documentaries. A true history buff, Gary loved learning about the Civil War and sharing what he knew with others.

A faithful member of Highland Community Church, Gary served in various ministries over the years and found joy in serving both his church family and community. He was known for his gift of conversation, his warm sense of humor, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. Gary never met a stranger and was always ready to share a story, lend a helping hand, or brighten someone's day with a friendly conversation.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wilson; mother, Doris Wilson; and brother, Barry Keith Wilson.

Gary his survived by his wife, Anna Wilson; daughter, Catherine "Cat" (Brian) Kennedy; son, Robert "Rob" (Sharon) Wilson; cherished grandchildren, Ronan Wilson and Malachi Wilson; brother, Harry James "Jim" (Debbie) Wilson; sister, Kathleen "Kitty" (Matthew) Braaten; several nieces and nephews; and his two granddogs, Lily and Mercedes.
