Edward Lee Miller, 83, of West Salem, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 19, 2026, surrounded by family after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Ed was born on March 25, 1943, in West Salem, Illinois, the son of Fred and Bessie (Lomas) Miller.

On June 13, 1970, he was united in marriage to Joyce McKinney. They shared many happy years together until her passing in 2020.

During his humble childhood, Ed developed a lifelong love for sports, especially baseball. This passion extended to collecting baseball cards, and over the years, he assembled an enormous collection that amazed many. He had been an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan since 1951—a devotion he and Joyce shared wholeheartedly.

Throughout his life, Ed enjoyed playing men’s softball, bowling, and coaching youth baseball. He was always eager to stir chowder, whether for the West Salem Homecoming, friends, or family. He was a longtime member of the Albion Moose Lodge and enjoyed attending Edwards County High School (ECHS) Lions basketball games.

He also loved playing cards with family and friends, especially during Saturday night poker gatherings.

Ed attended West Salem Zion Church, where he served faithfully with the Methodist Men and participated in the church’s food program for several years.

He was known to many through his work at Champion Laboratories, where he served as a foreman in shipping and receiving for over 45 years, forming many lasting friendships along the way.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his son, Steve Miller (2021); and his parents.

He is survived by his children: Karla (Donn) Westray, Lynn (Marty) Hogan, and Tony (Andi) Miller; his grandchildren: Misty Taylor, Amy Ray, Jonn Westray, Earvin Westray, Eddie Hogan, Peter Hogan, Kelly Hogan, Maggie Hogan, Don Hogan, Jack Hogan, Maddie Miller, Alexeia Nelson, and Zane Byram; 13 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings: Judy Baker, Tom (Nancy) Miller, Don (Karen) Miller, and Karla Miller; along with many nieces and nephews.

A devoted father, grandfather, and friend to all, Ed will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

The family is planning a memorial service for Ed to be held at a later date.

Ingram Meridith Funeral Home of West Salem, Illinois, is honored to assist the family of Edward L. Miller with arrangements.
