Dr. Robert “Bob” Marshall, 74, of Effingham, IL passed away on February 15, 2020 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York, surrounded by the love and support of his three daughters during his final days.
Robert was born on April 30, 1945 to Dr. Glenn Marshall and Genevieve (nee Lee) Marshall in Denver, Colorado. The family, that includes his sister Glenda (nee Marshall) Lane, settled in Effingham, IL where Robert grew up playing football, basketball, baseball, and admiring the work of his physician father.
After graduating high school, Robert attended DePauw University and Northwestern University School of Medicine. As a cardiologist, Robert dedicated much of his career to caring for veterans in VA clinics and hospitals in northern California as well as Mississippi. His deep scientific curiosity also led him to conduct years of cardiology research at UCLA and UC Berkeley.
An accomplished piano and trumpet player, music sparked great joy in Robert’s life. He filled his home with opera and classical music.
More than anything, though, Robert adored his daughters and grandkids. Later in life he’d say, “My favorite people call me grandpa.” An encouraging and loving presence to his family, Robert is survived by his children, Roslyn (Andy) Paine, Denver, CO, Anne (Casey) Marshall-Chalmers, Louisville, KY, Laura (Evan) Lison, Chatham, NJ; grandchildren, Ian and Drew Paine, Maria and Robert Chalmers and Madeline and Nathan Lison; his sister, Glenda (Larry) Lane, Naples, FL; and mother of his three children, Rosalie Marshall, Piedmont, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Genevieve Marshall.
In lieu of flowers, Robert’s children invite you to donate to Robert’s beloved DePauw University and the organization, Doctors Without Borders.
