Doris R. Branger, nee Ludwig, 87, of Highland, IL died October 9, 2009 at Faith Care Center, Highland, IL.  She was born November 18, 1921 in Long Island (Queens) New York to William and Theresa (nee Oelberger) Ludwig.  She married Joe (Waldo) Branger and moved to Highland, IL in 1946.

Doris was raised in Queens and graduated from John Adams High School in 1939.  She attended Queens College for two years, and then worked at Mercanthal Linotype Company as one of the many women who helped man the factories during WWII as "Rosie the Riveter".

SURVIVED BY:  Three Sons:  Wayne (Karen) Branger, Highland, IL; Keith (Joanne) Branger, Pocahontas, IL; Joel"Jewels" Branger, Highland, IL; Six Grandchildren, Kelly (Davie) Eckstein, Highland, IL; Jackie Possinbarger; Michael Branger, Highland, IL; Nicole (Joe) Sterkis, Jamestown, IL; Adrienne Branger, Pocahontas, IL; Minas Kassiou, Effingham, IL.  Two Great Grandchildren; Adam Eckstein and Lillie Possinbarger.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Parents; Husband; and Two Sisters; Elsie Ludwig, Clair Mas; One Granddaughter, Theresa Branger.

She was employed at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL as an LPN for more than 30 years.  She was a member of St. Paul Church, Highland, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary for 55 years.  She had been a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and she sold Avon products for 17 years.

VISITATION:  Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Meridith Funeral Home, 1223 Broadway, Highland, IL;

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL:  Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., October 14, 2009 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland with burial in Highland City Cemetery, Highland, IL.

MEMORIALS TO:  Highland Animal Shelter or Edwardsville Senior Center.
