Dennis Ray Splittorff

May 22, 1956 — January 29, 2026

Albion, IL

Dennis Ray Splittorff, 69, of Albion, Illinois passed away on January 29, 2026, culminating a hard-fought and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He transitioned peacefully from this life, into the arms of his loving Father, surrounded by his loving family at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.

Dennis, affectionately referred to as “Denny” was born May 22, 1956 to James and Charlotte (Grover) Splittorff. He married his wife, Lori, in 1983, and together they crafted a multi-decade love story that was filled with laughter, joy, and a deep sense of commitment. He formed unbreakable bonds with his beloved pets: Little Ricky, who was at his bedside the day of his passing, and Lucy Lou, who preceded him in death. Dennis was a fixture of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Albion, Illinois where he served as a deacon for over 35 years. Put simply, Dennis received joy and fulfillment from service to others. He loved going on mission trips and served as chaplain for the Illinois Baptist Disaster Relief organization. Dennis enthusiastically engaged in all things politics and previously served as the Chairman of the Edwards County Republicans. Especially in his earlier years, Dennis enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. For roughly the past 16 years, Dennis developed both a new profession and a new passion, driving a school bus. Although driving a school bus was his most recent employment, it was never his “job”; rather it was another opportunity for him to serve and pour into the lives of others. His impact was evidenced by the joyful spirits of his riders and the kind messages of condolences, which were received by the family.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Lori; their son, Joe (Amy) Splittorff; grandchildren, Jayden and Jori; and great grandchildren, Skylynn and Reid. He is also survived by brothers Lonnie Splittorff and Jimmy Splittorff; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Avalea (Chapman) Wissel; his brother and sister in laws, and many nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bruce Splittorff; and infant twin sister Debra Kay Splittorff.
