St. Jacob

Delores Daiber, 85, of St. Jacob, IL, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025, at Hitz Memorial Home, in Alhambra, IL, surrounded by her family.

Delores was born on the family farm west of St. Jacob, to Benjamin and Edith (nee Noeltner) Mersinger, and attended the one room Qui Vive schoolhouse in St. Jacob Township near her home before transferring to the grade school in St. Jacob. Growing up, Delores helped her parents with daily farm chores and learned valuable skills from them, including cooking, baking, canning, and housekeeping.

On October 18, 1958, she married Orville Daiber and the couple settled on their farm east of St. Jacob. Delores played an active role in farm life while also raising their three children — Sharon, Dennis, and Judy. She always made sure Orville had home-cooked meals brought out to the field and made sure family always came first.

A lifelong member of St. James Church in St. Jacob, Delores was actively involved with the Ladies of St. James. She dedicated many years to helping prepare dishes like german potato salad, and coleslaw for the church’s annual fish fry. After the death of Orville, she moved into town and joined the Red Hats and a bunco group, enjoying many lunches and laughs with her friends. One of the highlights of her life was a trip to Rome, where she visited the Vatican and many historic churches. It was an experience she treasured deeply.

On November 11, 1995, Delores married Stan Luczak and together they traveled to numerous destinations across the United States. Delores loved her children and took special joy in her grandchildren who often visited after school to enjoy her homemade cookies and brownies. A devote Catholic, she regularly attended mass, prayed the rosary, and often listened to or watched daily mass. Delores found great comfort in her faith.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orville Adolph Daiber; second husband,

Stanley Luczak; parents, Benjamin and Edith Mersinger; brother, Leroy Mersinger; sister-in-law, Betty Mersinger.

Delores is survived by her children, Sharon (Dan) Dickman, Dennis (Lori) Daiber, Judy (Kevin) Brendel; grandchildren, Todd (Misty) Dickman, Adam (Hannah) Dickman, Lisa (Brennan) McVey, Dawn (Bobby) Ross, Garret (Beth) Daiber, Brett (Susie) Daiber, Ashley Brendel, Ben (Erin) Brendel; great-grandchildren, Karsyn Lugar, Paisley Dickman, Austin Dickman, Abel Dickman, Robby Ross, Hudson Ross, Grace Daiber, Gunnar Daiber, Salem Daiber, Hayden Ross, Sawyer Ross, Blaire Brendel; cousin, Darlene Timmermann, who was like a sister to Delores; and many loving friends.
