Daniel J. Atwood

Daniel J. Atwood, 51, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at his home.

He was born on February 10, 1974, in Belleville, IL, to Jimmie and Carol (nee Votava) Atwood.

Danny was a man who could bring any engine back to life. Whether it was a lawn mower, a motorcycle, or a car, if it had a motor, Danny could fix it. His love for tinkering in the garage was more than just a hobby—it was a passion that defined him.

He was also a talented and successful motorcycle racer, finding both joy and triumph on the track. Away from racing, Danny cherished the simple freedom of being outdoors. He loved mushroom hunting, camping under the stars, mountain biking through rugged trails, or just riding his bike around town, enjoying the wind and the journey.

Dan was building career with the United States Postal Service, where his hard work and dedication left a lasting impression on his coworkers and community.

Above all, Danny’s heart belonged to his loyal companions, Moto and Bud. His dogs were not just pets, but part of his family, and he adored them deeply.

Danny’s life was full of energy, determination, and love. He will be remembered for his skill, his adventurous spirit, and the way he poured his heart into everything he did. He had a mischievous smile that will be remembered forever by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmie and Carol Atwood.

Danny is survived by his siblings, Jerry Tanner, Licia (Remy) Gordon-Smith, Celia Cardascio (Scott Monroe), Angie (Kurt) Skinner; numerous nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.

Interment will take place at St. Johns Cemetery in Collinsville, IL and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
