Charles E. Sweet, 80, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his home in Collinsville, IL.
He was born on October 8, 1945, in East St. Louis, IL, to Edward and Annabelle (nee Bozart) Sweet. On November 21, 1964, he married the love of his life, Jacqueline “Jackie” Dammerman, in Belleville, IL.
Charles was known to many as a warm and personable presence, someone who could easily strike up a conversation and leave a lasting impression. He found deep companionship and unconditional love in his dogs—especially Maggie, who preceded him in death, and his loyal companion Shatzee.
Charles’ friendly nature made him well liked throughout the community. Whether through a simple greeting, a shared story, or a moment of humor, he brought familiarity and comfort to those around him.
He will be remembered fondly by those who knew him, and his presence will be missed within the community that came to care for him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Sweet; parents, Edward and Annabelle Sweet; siblings, Thomas Sweet, Jr., Pat Sweet, Mary Jane Wasser, Ellen Large.
Charles is survived by his son, Mike (Therese) Sweet; grandchildren, Crystal (Donald) Allard, Mikey (Becky) Sweet; great-grandchildren, Dylan Allard, Shylah Allard, Aurora Allard, Michael Sweet, Jr., Jemma Sweet; and one great-great grandchild, Adleigh Allard
