Charles D. "Chuck" May

Charles D. “Chuck” May, 84, of Highland, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at his home with his family by his side.

Chuck was born on July 25, 1941, in Centralia, IL, to Theodore “T.R.” and Thalia (nee Patton) May. He met his future wife, Betty Ackerson, at McKendree College, later to be married on April 17, 1965, in Lee Center, IL.

Chuck grew up in Nashville, IL. He graduated from McKendree College and began his 35-year teaching career in the O’Fallon-Belleville area. Chuck was a Mason, belonged to the National Street Rod Association, liked cars and travelling, especially to Montana.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore “T.R.” and Thalia May; son, Michael “Chad” May; brother, Raymond May; and sister-in-law, Ruth May.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Kyle (Vicki) May; grandsons, Brenden (Karigan O’Connell) May and Reese (Ashley Bumbar) May; his favorite granddaughter, Elisen May; great grandson, Grayson May; brother-in-law, Gene Ackerson; sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Jim) VanNatta and Lois Ackerson; nieces and nephews, Jennifer May, Kim Ackerson, Shelly (Greg) Smolik, Brian (Shawna Orr) Ackerson, Brandon (Jessica) VanNatta, Jeff (Laura) VanNatta, and James VanNatta; many beloved great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the Highland Pierron Volunteer Fire Department.

Visitation: Friday, June 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, and Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 am, at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL
