Betty Jane Jakel, Nee Wagner

Betty Jane Jakel, nee Wagner, 77, of Highland, IL died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL.   She was born August 13, 1929 to Reinhart J. and Mathilda (Hoffman) Wagner, both deceased.   On November 15, 1947 she married Vincent J. Jakel at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, and he survives.

She is also survived by two sons - Terry (Susan) Jakel, Alhambra, IL; Keith (Jody) Jakel, Highland, IL; three grandsons - John Hollenkamp, James Hollenkamp, Jeff Hollenkamp; three sisters - Lela Wagner, Highland, IL;  Bernice Schoner, Costa Mesa, Calif, Ruth (Delmar) Foehner, Millersburg, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one son - Dennis Robert Jakel in 1968; one sister - Marie Wagner; two brothers, Burnell Wagner and Robert Wagner.

Betty was a homemaker and had worked at Neubauers Meat Market for many years, retiring in 1986.  She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church of Highland, IL; Daughters of Isabella - serving as their Treasurer for many, many years; St. Anne's Altar Society and St. Paul Funeral Choir.

Betty was an avid Bowler, and Golfer, and she enjoyed following her sons' Baseball careers, and her Card Club.

Visitation:  Sunday, April 15, 2007 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00- 9:30 a.m. at Meridith Funeral Home, 920 Ninth St. Highland, IL

Funeral:  Mass of Christian Burial Monday, April 16th at 10:00 a.m. @ St. Paul Catholic Church, 1412 Ninth St. Highland, IL with Fr. David L. Peters, Pastor, officiating.   Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Highland, IL

Memorials may be offered as Masses or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
