Barry W. Deatherage, Sr., 78, of Highland, IL, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Cedarhurst of Highland.
He was born on October 23, 1946, in St. Louis, MO, to Ralph and Brooksie (nee South) Deatherage.
Barry loved to Bass fish. He was the founding member of Tri County Bass Anglers Association. He was a torpedo man on the USS Warrington, a Navy Destroyer. Barry received the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. When his children were younger, he was very active with their activities. Recently, he has enjoyed watching his grandchildren play in sports. Barry loved birds, his favorite was a blue bird, and he liked bird houses. He enjoyed working on cars and passed that along to his sons. Working on watches and clocks was another of his favorite past times. Barry worked as a Train Engineer for over 40 years, retiring from Union Pacific Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Brooksie Deatherage; daughter, Karen Deatherage, in infancy; son, Kyle Deatherage; brothers, Mike Deatherage and John Deatherage; sister, Phyllis Wild; and brother-in-law, Dino Geoppo.
Barry is survived by his children, Barry W. (Kelley) Deatherage, Jr., Highland, IL , Kenny (Ashleigh) Deatherage, St. Jacob, IL, and Anna (Nick) Rapp, Vacaville, CA; daughter-in-law, Sarah (A.J.) Steele, Marine, IL; grandchildren, Chase Schultz, Cameron Deatherage, Dawson Deatherage, Dayton Deatherage, Kaylee Deatherage, Camden Deatherage, Mia Steele, Lyla Rapp, and Archer Rapp; great grandchild, Atlas Schultz; sisters, Kathy (Rich) Serrano, Fort Worth, TX and Nancy Geoppo, St. Jacob, IL; sister in law, Donna Kay Deatherage, San Antonio, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
