Arthur E. "Art" Wolfe

Arthur E. “Art” Wolfe, 80, of Highland, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at his home in Highland, IL.

He was born on January 14, 1946, in Murphysboro, IL, to Horace and Irene (nee Brown) Wolfe. On July 11, 1987, he married Cheryl Swafford at Murphysboro First Baptist Church in Murphysboro, IL.

Art grew up in Murphysboro and graduated from Murphysboro Township High School. After graduation, he went around helping the local farmers in the area before enlisting and serving in the United States Navy. Once discharged, Art began his career of over the road truck driving until he retired. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro before moving to Highland and transferring his membership to the First Baptist Church of Highland. Art was a lifetime member of the Highland VFW Post 5694, the AB Men President through his church, and a part of an unofficial group of veterans who would gather at the Highland Diner every Wednesday morning for breakfast. He enjoyed hunting and fishing all over Southern Illinois and was a fan of the BBCCC: (Highland) Bulldogs, (St. Louis) Blues, (St. Louis) Cardinals, (Kansas City) Chiefs, and Christ. Art was very passionate about his faith and did many activities through his church like singing in the Choir in Murphysboro, serving on the Trustee Board for FBC Highland, serving as a Deacon for a time, a substitute Sunday School Teacher, and helped lead the Wednesday Night Bible Study Group with Pastor Cody. Although he didn’t get to finish, he was going through Alternative Ministerial Education to become ordained in the American Baptist Churches of the United States of America (ABC-USA). Art was kind, generous, and friendly; always ready to sit and talk over a cup of coffee. A simple and down to earth man, Art will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Irene Wolfe; brother, William “Bill” Wolfe; and brother-in-law, Earl Creath.

Art is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cheryl Wolfe; sister, Barbara Creath, sister-in-law, Patricia Wolfe; fur baby, Princess Abbie Wolfe Paw; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Highland.
