Arne “Fat Fred” Dahlgren, Sr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at John Cochran hospital, in St. Louis, MO.

Arne was born on October 14, 1944, in Westerly, Rhode Island, to the late Arne & Ruth (nee Maine) Dahlgren.

Arne was preceded in death on April 15, 2009, by his beloved wife Cheryl Ann (nee Vincik) Dahlgren, whom he married on May 12, 1969, in Westerly, Rhode Island. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Leo Dahlgren, and sister, Jean Dahlgren-Greene.

Arne served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964-1967 and became a Sergeant. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He was a Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Arne is survived by his two sons, Arne (Barb Lash) Dahlgren, Jr., of Canton, IL, Adam (Sarah) Dahlgren, of Collinsville, IL; sister, Helen Dahlgren-Jacobson, of Westerly, RI; daughter-in-law, Angie Dahlgren, of Troy, IL; grandchildren, Sara (Michael) Anderson, of Troy, IL, Alexzandrea “Alex” Dahlgren, of Troy, IL, Samantha and Nathan Crofutt, both of Collinsville, IL; great-grandchildren, Issac Dahlgren, Lilyann and Brinely Gills, of Troy, IL, Camdyn Crofutt, of Collinsville, IL; brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, nephews; best friends, James “Jimmy” Cook, of Westerly, RI, Rick Gaddis, of Troy, IL; and many friends at the Caseyville VFW post 1117, and Lonnie’s.

Following Arne’s wishes, there will be no services, nor a celebration of life. To honor “Fat Fred” please donate to your local V.F.W. post, The Shriners Hospital for Children of St. Louis, MO, or Saint Judes.
