Andrew J. “Andy” Anderson

Andrew “Andy” Anderson, 76, of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Belleville, IL.

After graduating high school, Andy spent 4 years in the United States Air Force, serving all over the world before being assigned to Scott Air Force Base.  He also worked for Volkswagen as a mechanic/service writer for more than 20 years.

Andy was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, attended Cursillo, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1580, 4 ^th Degree Assembly, Knight Time Singers, Midwest Coin Shooters and Historical Club for metal detecting (which he loved), Scoutmaster for Troop 63, Committee member for Troop 1040, member of the Order of the Arrow, awarded the Silver Beaver Award, and was involved for more than 40 years in the Boy Scouts of America.

Andy collected and enjoyed playing ukuleles, and one of his favorite hobbies was to grow and pickle hot peppers.  For the past 15 years, he practiced and enjoyed teaching Tai Chi Chih with his wife, Bobbie.  Most of all, he loved being a grandpa.  Andy will always be remembered for his warm smile.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Anderson, Highland, IL; sons, Andrew “Drew” Anderson, Godfrey, IL, and Alan (Karen) Anderson, Edwardsville, IL; grandchildren, Ethan and Owen Anderson; sister, Julia Anderson Medina; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Delbert) Henderson, Rose Manibusan Anderson, Maria Salas Anderson, and Elizabeth Blas Alderson; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Felisa Anderson; brothers, Arthur Gifford Anderson, Anthony Lucian Anderson, Franklin George Anderson; sisters, Evangeline Anderson and Rosa Perez Anderson.

Memorials may be made to St Paul Education Foundation, Lewis & Clark Boy Scout Council or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Visitation: Friday, March 13, 2015, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturday, March 14, 2015, from 8:00 to 9:30 am at the Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 10:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.
