Pre-planning
More and more people today are pre-planning their funerals. This thoughtful option allows you to design the type of service you prefer in advance of the actual event.
Many families opt for pre-planning because it helps those around them during what can be a difficult time. Taking the time to make these arrangements is a gift to be given at the time of their loved one’s death.
Pre-planning allows for flexibility in terms of the funeral home you select. Even if you already have a pre-planned arrangement at another funeral home, Meridith Funeral Home can assist you in your final arrangements as most plans allow you to change the home you ultimately utilize. This is true even if you have pre-funded your funeral.
Pre-funding has the advantage of locking in your arrangements at today’s prices. This also has the added advantage of alleviating the financial burden from your loved ones. Provided all the arrangements remain the same, there will be no charges at the time of death

Traditional Funeral Service
This type of service will usually have a visitation followed by a funeral and committal service the next day, although, it could include a cremation. It is still the most common type of funeral mostly because it is the most helpful to family and friends. The social function of gathering in one place to reminisce about the life of a loved one is very helpful in the grieving process.
The traditional funeral service usually includes the following:

Direct Burial
This type of service is a one-day function, usually soon after the family learns of the death. It will usually include committal service, casket, and burial vault.
Immediate Cremation
An immediate cremation will sometimes include a memorial service at a later date. The cremated remains may be present, depending on the family’s wishes. If final interment is a burial, this will also include a committal service.
